What is an Owner-Builder?
An Owner-Builder is a a contractor who, under the supervision of the owner acting as the general contractor, builds a house for the owners occupancy, on the owners land. These homes are in most cases built partly by the owner and partly with paid help; sometimes built entirely with the employment of subcontractors; and occasionally built entirely by the owner. This also includes houses built by the builder for the builder’s own use.
What is a general contractor?
A general contractor is a manager and possibly also a tradesman that is employed by a client. A general contractor is responsible for the overall coordination of a project. A general contractor is responsible for providing all of the material, labor, equipment and services necessary for the construction of the project.
What is a subcontractor?
A Subcontractor is a type of contractor. Subcontractors form agreements with the General Contractor, not with the customer. Subcontractors often specialize in one specific area of construction, a “trade,” and try to network with contractors who negotiate for larger jobs that include this area of specialty.
What is a material provider?
Material providers make up all of the dealers, distributors, wholesalers, fabricators, manufacturers, and retail businesses that provide building products to new construction projects.
What is an engineered to order product?
Engineer to order is a type of manufacturing process in which a product is designed, engineered and finished after an order has been received. Engineered-to-order means that there will be a high level of customer participation, or site-specific detail, in the design and manufacturing process of the product.
